The folks at NetherRealm Studio showed up for the Brazilian CCXP expo, and they brought their first look at Quan-Chi. The sinister sorcerer is joining the Mortal Kombat 1 roster this year after being the co-big bad of the game’s story mode.
Much like the Omni-Man trailer, Quan-Chi also shows off an upcoming Kameo, but a more literal cameo at the trailer’s end may be the biggest surprise.
The trailer shows off Quan-Chi in all his glory, including a particularly nasty fatality involving glass panes. The gameplay is as brutal as you would expect, but some of the shine is rubbed off by Quan-Chi’s presence in the game’s story mode.
Joining Quan-Chi is Khameleon, who is an interesting pick for longtime MK fans. Her last appearance was in the Nintendo Switch port of Mortal Kombat Armageddon, a game heavily referenced in Mortal Kombat 1‘s story mode. Khameleon made her debut as a hidden character in the N64 port of Mortal Kombat Trilogy. Mortal Kombat 1 will mark her first appearance on a non-Nintendo console, as other versions of both MK Trilogy and MK Armageddon used the male-presenting Chameleon instead.
But the biggest surprise is the surprise cameo of Peacemaker at the end, teasing his imminent arrival as the next guest character. The short teaser also reveals the first of John Cena’s voice acting for the role. Cena reprises the role from 2021’s The Suicide Squad and the 2022 Max series Peacemaker.
Unfortunately, it’s not all great news, as this will be another staggered release. Quan-Chi will be available in early access beginning December 14, 2023, while Khameleon won’t be available until January 2024. Peacemaker has yet to receive an official date, but was previously announced to release in Winter 2023/2024.
