Mortal Kombat 1's mysterious gear and customisation systems have finally been detailed thanks to leaked footage from an early copy of the game that's running on the Nintendo Switch.
Ever since Mortal Kombat 1 was first revealed, one of the biggest questions that fans have had about it is whether or not the gear system from Mortal Kombat 1 would return, something that NetherRealm was surprisingly cagey about, only confirming that it was a thing last week when it revealed the new Invasions mode. Even after telling players that there would be unlockable gear and skins, it still wasn't made clear just how deep the system was and what could actually be changed for each fighter.

Over the last couple of days, footage from an early copy of the Nintendo Switch version of the game has been shared online, revealing some key details about Mortal Kombat 1, including its near-final launch roster. We might still be waiting to find out about that greyed-out 24th character, but the latest footage of the game that's doing the rounds finally gives us a better look at the gear and customisation systems.
Over on the Mortal Kombat leaks subreddit, Redditor Disastrous-Form-6348 shared some screenshots from the Nintendo Switch version of the game that show the gear menu in action. From the screenshots, it appears that there are four different things about each character that can be changed - taunts, finishers (including Fatalities and Brutalities), colour palettes, and a single piece of gear for each character, such as Scorpion's mask and Geras' chest piece.
