It turns out that Atlus has been pretty busy recently, with the recent release of Persona 5 Tactica and the launch Persona 3 Reload on the horizon. Not content with having just one massive game in 2024, Atlus has given us another good look at its upcoming title Metaphor: ReFantazio, a new IP by the creators of Persona which was rebranded and re-revealed during the Xbox showcase earlier this year.
The Game Awards gave us another healthy dosing of Atlus goodness though, as a new trailer for Metaphor: ReFantazio has revealed several new story details, characters, gameplay, and a more narrowed down release date of Fall 2024. During the trailer, we get a good look at some of the animated cutscenes showcasing a bunch of characters, each one with a more interesting design than the last.
On top of that, we also get a look at a lot of gameplay, which looks quite a lot like the same gameplay we're seeing in Persona 3 Reload. It features similar UI during combat, and we also see several methods of traversal including a hoverboard, which you might need to traverse the vast open world which seems to appear towards the beginning of the trailer.
It was also revealed that the person behind the design of many of the game's machine is none other than Ikuto Yamashita, whose work you may recognize in Neon Genesis Evangelion. If you haven't seen it, it's an anime series full of iconic mech designs, so we know that Metaphor: ReFantazio is in good hands.
