Last week, Path of Exile 2’s Game Director Jonathan Rogers sat for a livestreamedinterview with streamer Kripparrian, and the two discussed PoE2, what’s new, how they’re evolving and balancing combat, monster designs, adding WASD combat and much more. This comes as today, there is another live stream with Rogers and Mark Roberts happening today.
Grinding Gear Games is clearly ready to talk about Path of Exile 2 and some of what we can expect to see. Of course, with a sequel, there are already expectations, so the team not only has to offer some compelling reasons for the community to invest time and money in the sequel.
Yes, WASD movement is coming, after the community requested it, and the team ran with it in order to work to make combat feel fun with any input method.
Combat strategies, flow, and balance also come up, including ways to improve the animations to make character movement smoother and more fluid. A character won’t have to come to a stop and then attack. As the team aims for a balance between damage and challenge, combat performance is also something they are keeping in mind.
The importance of community feedback is a highlight, with Rogers noting that they have to account for both new players and PoE vets, and give everyone info they need without overwhelming them. This doesn’t mean they’re “dumbing down” their systems though.
The conversation goes for more than an hour and the two discuss lots of topics. If you’re anticipating Path of Exile 2 and how the GGG team is creating the experience, it’s worth a listen. Beta is currently scheduled for June, so there’s still a while to go. Yet, the info should keep coming more regularly now.
On that note, there is a live stream happening right now over on Twitch
