Atlus has shared extensive new details on Metaphor: ReFantazio with a deep dive showcase dedicated to the upcoming fantasy RPG. Along with announcing an October launch date for the title, the developer has also offered new information on what to expect from the game’s overarching structure, the locations you’ll be visiting across its fantasy setting, and more.
Metaphor: ReFantazio’s story focuses on a kingdom in strife, where the assassination of its ruler has kickstarted a kingdom-wide tournament to determine who their next ruler will be. The protagonist, in spite of the lower social standing of his race in the game’s world, enters this tournament in a race to become the next king. On your journey, you’ll be going from city to city, with each city serving as a hub for segments of the game.
In each city, players will be able to explore various locations and visit facilities like weapon shops, taverns, inns, or a Recruitment Center, where you can pick up bounties on monsters. Meanwhile, similar to Persona, Metaphor: ReFantazio will also feature a calendar system. Activities will come with predetermined lengths of time and structures, but within those windows, players will have the freedom to pick quests, side quests, dungeons, and other activities as they please.
Upon selecting a certain quest and heading out from a city, you’ll find yourself aboard the Gauntlet Runner, a massive tank-like vehicle that will serve as your main transportation method when you’re traveling across large distances. Travel, however, won’t be instantaneous, and while the Gauntlet Runner is making the journey, you’ll be able to explore its insides, hang out on its deck and look at the environments as the Runner moves through them, converse and spend time with companions, and more.
