Publisher Dotemu just shared a new trailer for Leikir Studio’s roguelite tactical RPG. Players can take command on PC, Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles this fall.
“Metal Slug Tactics is a tribute to the iconic series, offering a fresh and imaginative approach,” says Dotemu. “It captures the essence of Metal Slug’s timeless aesthetic through stunning pixel art and fluid animation.” Fans can see that clearly in the trailer, which showcases the turn-based isometric gameplay.
Metal Slug Tactics sees the return of the villainous General Morden and his Rebel Army, continuing the story of games 1, 2, 3, and 6. After years in hiding, Morden is back for revenge, and the Peregrine Falcon Squad must defeat him again.
The tactical roguelite features 9 iconic characters from the series that players can use to build their squad. They will battle across 110 hand-crafted maps and 20 mission types as they face a range of enemies, including bosses from across the series. The game also boasts 36 weapons and 176 weapon mods that the player can use to equip their squad.
Leikir Studio and Dotemu announced Metal Slug Tactics in 2021, initially planning to release it that year. It was then delayed to 2023 and again to 2024. While fans still don’t have a specific release date, they’ll be satisfied to know the game hasn’t turned into vaporware. Fans can wishlist it now on Steam, and it’s also coming to Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
