Metal Max Xeno Reborn's combat system combines qualities from various JRPGs. Its primary influence is turn-based combat. However, traversing an open world in a military tank adds a new spin to the action. Here are the principles you'll encounter in both handheld and vehicle combat.
Combat in Metal Max can get initiated by either you or an enemy. However, an orange line will connect when an enemy spots you. A red gauge at the top of the screen will continue to fill as long as you stay in the enemy's field of vision. If the gauge fills, you and your enemy will engage in battle.
For the most part, combat in Metal Max is turn-based. The rotation of turns is determined by which character or vehicle is the fastest. As a result, you'll notice a circle fill beside each character's life bar in your HUD. Like an ATB (Active Time Battle) gauge, you can attack once this circle gauge fills. Play then continues to the next combatant with a full speed gauge.
When you take your turn, time will freeze. Therefore, you can take your time and focus on strategy. The command menu offers various actions, which we'll explain below.
