If Solid Snake were to drive anything, you'd probably expect it to be a tank, or a Hind-D attack helicopter, or maybe a submersible insertion vehicle. But a Ford Focus? That seems a little too pedestrian for the cloned special forces soldier. And yet, back in 2016, Solid Snake starred in a commercial for Ford. Now we know how such an unlikely piece of video game history came to be.
When Time Extension recounted the bizarre Metal Gear Solid-Ford commercial, Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter responded with an explanation.

"Here's the story: I did a commercial for Ford as a VO Actor, and the Producers were big Snake fans," recounted Hayter. "So they said, ‘Hey, if we got permission from Konami to use Snake in an ad, would you do it?’ ‘Sure.’ I said, certain it would never happen. Then it did. Then I was stuck."
The funny part is Snake was no longer played by Hayter when this commercial was made. Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain infamously recast Snake with Kiefer Sutherland. On top of that, the ad makes reference to the Fulton-Extraction system, which was most prominent in Metal Gear Solid 5 (although it was technically present in Peace Walker and Portable Ops Plus, which still starred Hayter as Snake/Big Boss).
But Ford didn't stop at just one commercial--they made two. The other was a take on the Psycho Mantis boss fight with Doug Stone reprising his role as the psychic who can read minds. In the commercial, Psycho Mantis tells Snake he's interested in the Ford Fusion Titanium for its 2.0L EcoBoost engine, saying "I can read you like an open book."
