The Hydra from The Masked Singer season 7 was revealed to be legendary magicians, Penn and Teller, and Penn Jillette revealed the inner workings of the complicated Hydra costume. Record-breaking Las Vegas headliners Penn Jillette and Raymond Teller have been performing together since the late 1970s. As the Hydra on The Masked Singer, Teller did most of the singing because he rarely speaks, and he and Penn thought that it would be an ingenious way to disguise their identity since Penn's voice is so recognizable. Teller sang in two different voices in order to trick the panel into thinking that there could be three singers in the massive Hydra costume.
One of the highlights of Penn and Teller's performances was the Hydra costume itself, which was a blue and green three-headed dragon that blew smoke out of its nostrils. Each head had different-colored eyes. The costume featured three legs and two arms and was so large and complicated that TMZ even reported that the crew had to make some adjustments to it in order to make it safer, including adding handles for the performers to hold on to while inside. Five times the number of staff members were needed to help with the Hydra. While the contestants usually put on their costumes in their dressings rooms in order to keep their identities secret, Penn and Teller had to get into the costume on stage because the Hydra costume was so difficult to move. The set was locked down and a barrier was built to block the stage in order to maintain the mystery.
