Singer-songwriter Jewel revealed that while filming The Masked Singer, she suffered her first panic attack in years. She competed during season 6 of the singing competition show as Queen of Hearts. The costume resembled a red heart-shaped jewel, which seemed to be a nod toward the singer's identity. The «You Were Meant For Me» singer made it to the show's finale, where she competed against Bull, who was revealed to be Todrick Hall, and beat out her competition, taking home the coveted masked trophy. During her time on the show, she blew the panelists and fans away with renditions of songs like «La Vie En Rose» by Édith Piaf and Lady Gaga's #1 single «Born This Way.»
In the 2000's, the Masked Singer contestant created the Inspiring Children Foundation, which helps at-risk youth struggling with financial hardship and their mental health and gives them resources for therapeutic practices, mentoring, schooling and more. The singer furthered her activism in October when she teamed up with mental health nonprofit One Mind as their new ambassador. The nonprofit was founded in 1995, the same year Jewel released her first album, after founders Shari and Garen Staglin's son was diagnosed with schizophrenia. The Alaska native has been open about her own mental health struggles and life hardships, like when she lived in her car while traveling around and trying to break into the industry.
