Marvel's What If...? season 2's 2022 release is confirmed by head writer A.C. Bradley in response to a report that it would be arriving this year. The animated Marvel Cinematic Universe series adapts to comic storyline of the same name in which alternate realities are explored having branched off from iconic moments in hero's lives occurring differently. For Marvel's What If...?, these are branched off from notable MCU events, including Tony Stark being saved by Killmonger, T'Challa becoming Guardians of the Galaxy leader Star-Lord and the Avengers being transformed into zombies.
Jeffrey Wright led the cast of Marvel's What If...? as Uatu, better known as the Watcher, a member of an alien race who observes the Multiverse but refuses to interfere with its events until necessary. The series also featured the returns of most major MCU stars including Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Hemsworth, Samuel L. Jackson, Hayley Atwell, Michael B. Jordan, Tom Hiddleston and Chadwick Boseman in his final performance as T'Challa prior to his death. Marvel's What If...? received largely positive reviews from critics and audiences alike for its vocal performances, unique stories and animation, though some criticism was directed towards the pacing of some episodes.
