Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac explains that one of the titular character's alter egos was originally written much differently. The upcoming MCU series will be the very first live-action appearance for the character Moon Knight. Although the character has had prominent appearances and multiple runs in the comics since its inception in 1976, as well as minor cameo appearances in Marvel animated television series, there is no precedence for his portrayal on screen.
Isaac stars as Marc Spector, a former U.S. Marine-turned-mercenary who wrestles with dissociative identity disorder, a mental condition that causes the afflicted to have multiple, distinct personalities. One such alter ego is the rather unassuming British gift shop employee, Steven Grant, who suffers from bouts of memory loss from his many blackouts. After the Egyptian god Khonshu (F. Murray Abraham) grants Marc with magical powers, he must uncover the truth about his multiple lives while evading the religious zealot Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke).

In a recent interview with Radio Times, Isaac explained that the one of Marc Spector's alter egos was originally much different. Before signing onto Moon Knight, Isaac struggled with how he would approach the main character and his multiple personalities. The actor ended up surprising Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige, with his bumbling British take on Steven Grant, one of Marc's alter egos.
