Moon Knight star May Calamawy explained that she revealed spoilers for the new MCU show to her 5-year-old nephew. The series premiered on Disney+ to mostly positive reviews from critics, with near-universal praise given to the show's lead, Oscar Isaac, for his portrayal of a person who lives with dissociative identity disorder (DID), a complex psychological condition that can cause people to have multiple, distinct identities. Recently, Calamawy also applauded her co-star for his work, citing Isaac's devotion to the character.
The new MCU series centers on Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac), a former U.S. Marine turned mercenary for hire who, as a result of his DID, has multiple identities. After being given powers by the Egyptian god Khonshu (F. Murray Abraham), Spector will discover the truth about his multiple lives and take on the religious zealot Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke). Egyptian-Palestinian actor Calamawy plays Layla El-Faouly, an archeologist and adventurer from Spector's mysterious past. In the first episode, Layla attempts to call Spector but ends up talking to Steven Grant, a fumbling museum gift shop clerk, and also one of Spector's peculiar personalities.
