In the build-up to ‘s release, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has shed light on their upcoming Blade reboot. The movie was initially confirmed in July 2019 but has since experienced several production issues, resulting in an indefinite delay in its release. While commenting on Deadpool & Wolverine being the MCU’s first R-rated film, Feige also touched upon the possible classification of Blade.
According to Kevin Feige, the vampire-centric film could have an R-rating upon its premiere.
While talking to BlackTree TV, Feige was questioned about Blade in association with Deadpool’s debut in the MCU. The 51-year-old Marvel executive stated that keeping the movie R-rated was the only way to maintain Deadpool’s essence as a character. He echoed similar thoughts regarding the Blade reboot, teasing an R-rating for the upcoming film.
Kevin Feige said, “There were some great Blade movies years ago — they were all rated R. So I think that’s, like Deadpool, inherent with the character of Blade.” He also shared some insights as to why the movie has been getting delayed. Feige stated, “For the last two years, as we’ve been trying to crack that movie, the most important thing for us is not rushing it and making sure we are making the right Blade movie.”
Five years since its official confirmation, the Blade reboot has undergone several structural modifications. According to Variety, as many as five writers have joined and left the project since its inception. Bassam Tariq was initially announced as the director before his departure in September 2022. Tariq was succeeded by Yann Demange, who has also exited the project since.
Despite the chaotic development process, Oscar winner Mahershala Ali is still attached to the film as its leading star. The Blade reboot is currently scheduled to hit theatres on November 7, 2025.
