Cities: Skylines 2 is introducing modding support, its first-ever asset pack, and another DLC on March 25. The addition of mod tools is bound to ennoble the game's replayability, while also addressing some common complaints that the fandom has previously aimed at Cities: Skylines 2.
While Colossal Order's latest city builder was originally meant to have a simultaneous multi-platform release, the Finnish studio ended up delaying the console ports of Cities: Skylines 2 in September 2023, less than a month ahead of their planned debut. Meanwhile, the PC version of the game launched without modding support, which was one of the main selling points of its predecessor, with that state of affairs hence generating quite a bit of criticism from the fandom.
Colossal Order is now finally getting ready to address that shortcoming, having just confirmed it plans to roll out a beta version of the game's mod support on March 25. The first wave of the long-awaited modding tools will comprise a code and map editor. The importance of this release can hardly be overstated, as even Colossal Order itself recently said it regrets not offering day-one mod support in Cities: Skylines 2.
Aside from the upcoming pair of editors, the Finnish studio is also planning to introduce support for asset pack mods at a later date. The March 25 release of the game's mod tools will coincide with the debut of Beach Properties, the city builder's first asset pack, as well as the Deluxe Relax Station DLC. The former will introduce 70 new assets, the vast majority of which will come in the form of additional Cities: Skylines 2 residential buildings.
