A popular Manifest theory suggests that the Callings originate within the multiverse. Alternative realities are a common science fiction trope, but so far haven’t been relevant to the show’s story. That being said, the existence of a parallel universe is widely considered to be one of the most plausible explanations for the show’s central mysteries.
After three seasons, it’s still hard to say exactly what kind of mysteryManifest’s story is. It might be about divine resurrection, or its entire plot could revolve around time travel instead. As things stand, the main characters still have a very limited understanding of what’s actually going on and how they survived the plane crash. In season 3, Ben settled on resurrection as the answer to everything. This idea is based on the shocking discovery of the Flight 828 tailfin in the season 2 finale. This told Ben that the plane was destroyed and everyone on it died in a crash. In Ben’s mind, the plane and all the passengers on board were brought back by a higher power. The same entity, which may or may not be God, is presumably the one who gives them the Callings.

In some ways, Ben’s resurrection theory fits with what the characters’ experiences with the Callings. So far, it feels like the purpose of the Callings is to get the passengers to help people in need. While there are naturally doubters like Adrian who think the Callings are part of some nefarious plan, it is true that following the Callings have helped people like Ben and Michaela save countless lives in Manifest.
