While some doubt the power of Creation Engine 2, it can at least be agreed that Starfield looks pretty. From the metropolitan streets of New Atlantis to seeing planets from low orbit, Bethesda has given us an attractive-looking game. But it could always stand to look a little better.
A recent upload to Nexus Mods (as spotted by DSO Gaming) gives us a Starfield HD texture overhaul from user luxor8071. Upping the visuals to 2K or even 8K resolution, this mod replaces plenty of the vanilla textures with higher definition ones.
Currently, the pack gives a spit shine to places like Akila City, New Atlantis, the Milky Way, and some general assets and materials, such as concrete, glass, wood, and water. It’s also an ongoing project, with more textures being added in the future.
Nobody was surprised to see mods for Starfield come out the woodwork. Even before the game released fully, the community was tinkering with Bethesda’s new IP. It is the way of life, especially when it comes to PC gaming.
As for Starfield itself, things are going pretty well for not-Skyrim-but-also-not-Elder-Scrolls–6-either. Bethesda released a couple of small patches recently to keep things ticking over, with some larger updates coming soon.
Everyone’s going to be wondering where Todd Howard and his team go from here. Obviously, there’s the aforementioned TES6, plus Fallout 5. Sadly, these hotly anticipated follow-ups are still years away. For now, we’re getting as much as we can out of Starfield. If nothing else, we can at least make it look a bit prettier.
