Shaina Hurley repeatedly told Kyle Abrams on Love Is Blind season 2 that she couldn't move forward with their relationship due to their religious differences, but it's now clear that she probably used religion as an excuse to break up with Kyle and pursue Shayne Jansen on the show instead. In the pods, Shayne developed good connections with both Natalie Lee and Shaina Hurley. Overall, it seemed like his interactions with Natalie were deeper, whereas his chats with Shaina were mostly superficial.
As Shayne proposed to Natalie and their relationship moved forward, Shaina chose to give Kyle a second chance. Kyle was clearly very invested in Shaina, but she seemed to just go with the flow for the most part. Once their religious beliefs came up, Kyle was adamant about being an atheist and Shaina pushed back by revealing her Christian faith. Nonetheless, Kyle tried to insist on their relationship and proposed, to which Shaina said «yes.»

As the episodes went on, it started to become clearer and clearer that Shaina didn't want to be with Kyle and chose to hyperfocus on their religious differences in order to justify why she didn't want to be with him. It all started with Shaina dismissing Kyle from their hotel room in Mexico at 7 p.m., which was followed by Shaina leaving the couples' retreat altogether. Then, they met back in Chicago and agreed that Kyle should meet Shaina's family. From the moment that Kyle got to Shaina's family home, it was clear that she had likely already told her relatives about not wanting to be with Kyle — which resulted in a very awkward interaction
