Amazon’s upcoming TV series, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, will feature a brutal death that will be far worse than anything shown in the films. While there is plenty of violence in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, the deaths are usually quick. There are some exceptions, but the torturous demise of Celebrimbor by the Dark Lord Sauron will likely be adapted, and the Elven prince’s death is far more intense than anything shown in the franchise thus far.
Celebrimbor was a Ñoldorin Elf prince who became a master ring-maker. Working alongside a disguised Sauron, he crafted the three rings of power for the Elves, which were instrumental to Sauron’s plans of conquest. The Elven rings, like those crafted for the Dwarves and men, were bound to Sauron’s One Ring, which he nearly used to corrupt the three Elven leaders. While the nine Men were corrupted, the Dwarves resisted Sauron’s power and the Elves avoided it by taking their rings off.

After Sauron failed to corrupt the Elven Kings, Celebrimbor hid the rings from the Dark Lord, leading to his capture by Sauron. The Dark Lord tortured Celebrimbor, who died before revealing the locations of the three Elven rings. The Lord of the Rings film trilogies feature plenty of brutal deaths, but nothing quite like Celebrimbor’s slow death by torture, making his potential demise in The Rings of Power something of a first for the live-action franchise.
