Sony’s limited edition PlayStation 5 Pro console sold out within minutes of going on sale in the UK on Thursday, and it’s already being listed by resellers at huge markup.
The classic-themed 30th-anniversary console is limited to just 12,300 units globally and is priced at £960 in the UK because it is bundled with various accessories, including a DualSense Edge controller and a DualSense Charging Station.
Following Thursday’s pre-orders opening, and swiftly selling out, scalpers looking to cash in on demand for the special PS5 Pro bundle havestarted listing the product on eBay with confirmation of pre-orders placed in the UK.
At the time of publication, more than 20 consoles are listed for sale on eBay, claiming to have successfully secured pre-orders for the Pro bundle, all of which are being offered for well above the product’s RRP.
Most of the listings are around £5,000 – five times the bundle’s official sale price – but some are being listed for as much as £10,000. The standard PS5 Pro, which also went up for sale today, is also being listed on eBay, but at far fewer numbers.
Sony says each 30th Anniversary PS5 Pro will have a number on it, and the console will be limited to 12,300 units globally, which is a reference to the launch date for the original PlayStation console.
Pre-orders for the 30th anniversary PlayStation 5 items, as well as the standard version PlayStation 5 Pro, are due to go live via the PlayStation Direct site in other regions, including the US, later today.
In areas where PlayStation Direct isn’t available, pre-orders will open on September 26 at undisclosed retailers and times.
Sony also plans to release limited edition versions of the standard digital PS5, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, and standard DualSense controller. At the time of publishing, the limited edition DualSense controller has sold out at many UK retailers including Amazon UK.
PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $699.99 /
