Sega has shared the opening cinematic for Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
The cinematic is two minutes long and shows just a little bit of what we can expect to see from the game. We see Kazuma Kiryu entering a bar in the middle of the night. He takes in his drinks, surrounded by couples flirting around the bar, but he mostly minds his own business. We see that he gets a call on his phone from someone tagged unknown, but we suspect if you’re an old fan of the Like A Dragon/Yakuza franchise, you might recognize that cell phone number.
Kazuma turns his phone off, and finishes his drinks before walking out of the bar, onto the streets. You get the feeling that the game will pick up from there.
The opening also has music from Yojiro Noda and J.I.D. Real name Destin Choice Route, J.I.D. is certainly an unexpected choice. He’s signed to J. Cole’s label Dreamville Records, and while he’s not a household name, he has received some critical acclaim. Of course, he’s also worked with some of hip-hop’s big names, including the late Mac Miller, and Doja Cat.
On the other hand, Yojiro Noda is lead singer of the alternative band Radwimps, who also has a solo project, Illion. Radwimps provided songs to the Japanese animated blockbusters Your Name, Weathering With You, and Suzume.
As reported by Gematsu, Noda and J.I.D.’snew song is called Katatoki. Once again, it’s an unexpected musical collaboration, but it certainly reflects the RGG studio’s cultured interest. There’s something to be said about bringing together musicians who may not be as big as, say, Snoop Dogg, who appeared in the Tekken games, but can make music that fits in perfectly with Like A Dragon’s vibe.
