Adobe Photoshop has long been able to do some video editing—trimming along with color and lighting adjustments. Now that capability comes to Lightroom.
That means all flavors of Lightroom—the new Lightroom, Lightroom Classic, and Lightroom on mobile devices. Other updates in the June 2022 Lightroom release(Opens in a new window) include a smarter AI-powered red-eye removal tool, and a new Amount slider for presets—Adaptive Presets—that target the sky or human subject. Lightroom (the new one) is getting Compare view for side-by-sides and new community features for better search and remixing others’ work.
Just as in Photoshop, the video-editing tools in Lightroom are limited, but could prove very useful: You can apply many of the same lighting, color, and preset adjustments to video as you could to photos, and you can also trim the start and end of video clips. Where this capability may be especially useful is for collections where you have photos and videos interspersed and want to give them a consistent look. How? The new feature lets you cut and paste settings between any photos or videos. You also get to use AI-powered Recommended Presets, which offer suggestions based on the video’s image content.
Preset Amount slider. Even the mass-market Instagram filters let you adjust the strength of presets, as do may other photo apps, so it’s good to see Adobe giving you this option with its presets. And it works with any presets, even those created by other users with a combination of slider adjustments. Of course, you can still fine-tune the sliders individually, but it’s nice to be able to simply increase or reduce the overall effect.
Adaptive Presets and Masks. These are presets that only apply to selected parts of a photo.
