The Snapdragon Summit is only a couple of days away, but that has not stopped a detailed specifications and features leak of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, revealing the improvements compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, along with a plethora of advantages for Android smartphones and tablets in multiple categories. The chipset maker has also invested heavily in GPU upscaling this time, making it possible to play games at the 8K resolution while also supporting visual additions such as global illumination and ray tracing.
Coming to the CPU and GPU improvements first, MSPowerUser showed off a leaked press slide, highlighting that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 sports a ‘1 + 5 + 2’ CPU cluster and is mass produced on the 4nm process. The CPU is said to be 30 percent faster and 20 percent more power efficient, but the slide does not reveal if these gains are when the new SoC is compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or the one before. As for the Adreno 750 GPU, the slide shows that it is 25 percent more powerful and efficient than the previous generation.
The leak also reveals that Qualcomm is taking smartphone gaming seriously and has equipped the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with support for Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen, along with the company’s Snapdragon Game Super Resolution, which can upscale up to 8K. It is also possible to experience 240FPS on a 240Hz display thanks to Qualcomm’s Adreno Frame Motion Engine 2.0, though the number of games that are playable at these framerates is not mentioned in the slide.
There is also on-device AI support, with more than 10 billion parameters, and the Hexagon NPU is 98 percent faster than 40 percent more efficient than the previous iteration. Not surprisingly, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is integrated with
