The trailer for Law & Order SVU season 23 episode 17 sees officer Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) clearly saying "officer down" after a body slams against a windshield. Officers are often exposed to danger, but rarely do officers sustain serious injuries while on duty in SVU. In the season 17 finale, Sgt Mike Dodds (Andy Karl) was fatally wounded after confronting a correctional officer about sexually assaulting inmates, however, this was an isolated instance for the show. Beyond that, serious injuries to officers on the show are extremely rare.
Law & Order season 23 has been a thrilling season so far, with some old faces saying goodbye, such as Katriona Tamin (Jamie Gray Hyder) and Christian Garland (Demore Barnes), and a new character, Joe Velasco (Octavio Pisano), introduced. Both Tamin and Garland departed in the first episode, however, Valesco did not come into the show until episode 7. Like many other Law & Order seasons, this particular SVU season provides some crossovers with other Law & Order series, like in episode 3 when the team contends with the Organized Crime department when the assailant happens to be a big-time mobster.

That all seems like it will change according to the Law & Order SVU Episode 17 trailer (via TV Promos). While the 15-second trailer does not reveal which officer goes down, based on the clip Benson is the only one ruled out as she reports the accident. The episode seems to be about a human trafficking situation in which the SVU team has only 24 hours to track down the kidnappers. However they get there, the search results in some kind of altercation and the injury of an officer.
