The trailer for Paramount+'s Halo episode 3 is teasing the introduction of Cortana. The military science-fiction show, based on the best-selling video game series of the same name, was developed by Kyle Killen and Steven Kane and premiered on the streaming platform on March 24, 2022. It follows the conflict between humanity and a threatening alien race known as the Covenant in the 26th century, weaving together personal adventures with the action fans have come to expect while depicting a version of the future that takes place within a timeline separate from that of the source material. Reprising her role as Cortana from the games is Jen Taylor, though the character's design change has been the source of some debate. However, executive producer, Kiki Wolfkill, recently defended Cortana's new Halo look, saying that she has to be different to better suit the new environment.
Since Halo's debut, the series has received mostly positive reactions, though loyal fans of the video games have been more critical of its first two episodes. Audiences who tuned in last saw the Master Chief, along with Kwan, on the run from the UNSC after disobeying orders and taking the Forerunner artifact, later connecting with Soren. It was through Soren and Reth, a hermit familiar with the Covenant, that the Master Chief learned of the artifact's relation to an alien superweapon. He was eventually collected by the Silver Team and being consoled by Dr. Halsey, who had to deal with the fallout of the Master Chief's actions. She then notes a new beginning before seemingly creating Cortana.
