Halo's Explanation For Having A Human In The Covenant Is Actually Great

Paramount+'s Halo TV series has introduced Makee, a human who lives among the Covenant — and the show's explanation for the character is great. Halo showrunner Steven Kane caused controversy when he claimed Halo's writers didn't look at the classic game, which is certainly not true; what he seems to have meant is that the writers and producers looked beyond the games, to a wider Halo franchise established in other mediums. The show is actually surprisingly accurate to its source material.
There is, however, one notable exception; the character of Makee, a human who lives among the Covenant. First glimpsed in trailers, she immediately led to intense speculation and debate. In an interview with Decider, Kane revealed she's destined to play an important role in the narrative, her arc paralleling that of the Master Chief himself. "John is in many ways an alien or an orphan among his own people," Kane pointed out, "because he’s different. He’s a Spartan, he’s trained to be a certain kind of way. And that’s what makes them effective as a soldier. In many ways, he is similar to Makee, who is a stranger in a strange land living among the aliens." It's an interesting approach — and, surprisingly, it's actually quite well explained.

As in the original games, the Prophets of the alien Covenant invading the galaxy revere an ancient race they call the Forerunners. They seek out technology created by the Forerunners, hoping it will lead them to the Halo Rings they believe will allow them to ascend to a higher plane of existence.
