Paramount+'s Halo TV series has introduced Makee, a human who lives among the Covenant — and the show's explanation for the character is great. Halo showrunner Steven Kane caused controversy when he claimed Halo's writers didn't look at the classic game, which is certainly not true; what he seems to have meant is that the writers and producers looked beyond the games, to a wider Halo franchise established in other mediums. And that’s what makes them effective as a soldier. In many ways, he is similar to Makee, who is a stranger in a strange land living among the aliens." It's an interesting approach — and, surprisingly, it's actually quite well explained.
