Ms. Marvel’s changes to Kamala Khan lower Quasar’s chances of joining the MCU. The first full trailer for Ms. Marvel’s Disney+ show confirms that the teenage hero won’t have the same abilities as her comic book counterpart. Not only that, but it appears Marvel is scrapping her comic origin.
In Marvel Comics, Ms. Marvel is an Inhuman, but not one of the characters tied to Black Bolt and his Inhuman royal family. Instead, she’s one of several seemingly normal humans who had her DNA altered by the mass release of the Terrigen Mists. As a result of this incident, Kamala developed the power to increase the size of her body parts, thus giving her stretching abilities akin to those of Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. What was shown in the Ms. Marvel trailer makes it abundantly clear that the MCU will be taking her character in an entirely different direction. Marvel is replacing her Inhuman genes and stretching abilities with alien tech and the power to create and control energy constructs.

The bracelets Kamala is wearing in the trailer look to be the Quantum Bands from Marvel Comics, which belonged to Quasar for most of his superhero career. Armed with the Quantum Bands, Quasar was capable of manipulating quantum energy in a way that wasn’t that different from what Green Lantern is known for in DC Comics. The idea that Kamala Khan's bracelet shares Quasar’s powers reinforces the Quantum Bands connection – and also makes her extremely similar to Wendell in his early days.
