Johnny Depp's defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard is halfway through its 4th week at this point, and it continues to make headlines. Today is one of the most highly anticipated days for viewers of the trial, as Heard has taken the stand for the very first time.
Depp had the previous weeks to present his case in chief, giving his full testimony and presenting witnesses to testify on his behalf. So far, at least in the court of public opinion, this has been going well for him. Heard was even reportedly so upset with the media coverage of the trial, and the reaction of the public to her, that she fired her PR team and switched to a new firm.

Yesterday was the first day for Heard's team to present her case. They started with an expert witness, psychologist Dawn Hughes, who diagnosed Heard with PTSD and concluded that Heard was a victim in her marriage. Today, Heard herself has begun her testimony and gets the chance to tell her side of the story. The actress, most well known for her work in Aquaman, has faced much scrutiny over the years since the demise of her marriage.
She was the first to come forward with claims of abuse against Depp and, as this was the height of the Me Too movement, the public generally believed her. However, Depp never admitted to the allegations, and recordings of the couple were released in the following years that painted Heard in a very bad light. Past partners of Depp, including actress Winona Ryder and Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his children, have also come to his defence.
