Bandai Namco has released another gameplay trailer for Tekken 8, featuring Ling Xiaoyu beating the whiskers off King II, but that’s nothing compared to the return of Jun Kazama as a fully playable character.
Here’s the Ling Xiaoyu gameplay reveal, with the “Dancing Phoenix” first facing off against Nina Williams in a gorgeous rendition of Time Square, before showing King II who rules the jungle.
Ling Xiaoyu has been a permanent fixture in the fighting game series since her debut in Tekken 3, but the same cannot be said of Jun Kazama. In fact, since her first appearance in Tekken 2, Jun has been relegated to cameo roles and narrative-led absences, and only been playable otherwise in the Tekken Tag Tournament spin-offs.
It seems she’s feeling it’s time to set her family straight, with the gameplay trailer showing off her beating up her son Jin, and his father Kazuya. Will we have an epic showdown between Devil and Angel in Tekken 8?
Bandai Namco has been on a streak of releasing fairly rapid-fire gameplay reveals for the game’s roster of characters. We saw a little bit of Devil Jin, Kazuya, Nina Williams, Jack-8, Marshall Law, King, Paul Phoenix, Lars Alexandersson in the last couple months, as the team build up to alpha in the not-too-distant future.
These character reveals have come off the back of a lengthy Tekken 8 gameplay deep dive that explored new gameplay mechanics including a new heat system, modified Rage Art system that uses a common input – Rage Drive from Tekken 7 has been removed – and a recover gauge that has some common ground with the Tekken Tag Tournament games.
