According to a new rumor, Naughty Dog's supposed The Last of Us remake will launch with the new version of Factions multiplayer in tow. Reports about The Last of Us remake initially hit the web in April 2021, thanks to word from Bloomberg that a PlayStation Studios shake-up placed the project in the hands of Naughty Dog. While the publisher and developer remain mum on the matter, a QA Tester's LinkedIn résumé seems to confirm that a remake is indeed in the works.
Factions, of course, counts as a different matter entirely. Naughty Dog originally planned on releasing the new multiplayer mode alongside The Last of Us Part II. These intentions changed several months before the sequel hit store shelves, allowing the development team to focus its efforts on completing the single-player campaign. While the studio has offered little in the way of concrete details, job listings and the like indicate TLoU's updated Factions suite will launch as a standalone title, complete with in-game microtransactions.

Easy Allies' Michael Huber (via Comicbook.com) recently took to Twitter to share a rumor that claims the still-unconfirmed The Last of Us remake will feature Naughty Dog's new Factions multiplayer mode. In response to a question about Factions supposedly launching as a standalone game, Huber posited that perhaps the online mode will be freely available but offer bonus items for those who pick up the older game's PlayStation 5 remake. The tweet in question reads as follows:
