The rumours of a remake of the first The Last Of Us continue and this time the suggestion is it’ll be one of Sony’s big Christmas releases.
Sony and Microsoft both have the same problem at the moment, in that neither seem to have any big budget games scheduled for the second half of the year. Hopefully God Of War Ragnarök hasn’t been delayed, and Microsoft probably has something secret to reveal at its showcase next month, but both companies seem likely to end up relying on remasters and remakes.
For Microsoft there’s talk of a God Of War collection and for Sony there’s been long-running rumours of a remake of the original The Last Of Us, which its now been suggested is coming out before the end of the year.
The remake has been rumoured since early 2021 and while series creators Naughty Dog were not initially thought to be involved they’ve now supposedly taken over the project, even though it’s never been officially announced by them or Sony.
There has been some minor evidence of the remake’s existence, such as a Naughty Dog employee listing an ‘unannounced remake’ on their CV, but this latest rumour comes from the usually reliable leaker Jeff Grubb.
‘I keep hearing that it’s coming out this year’, said Grubb in his latest YouTube video. Fellow leaker Tom Henderson also claims to have heard that the remake is ‘nearly finished’ and due to be released in the ‘latter half of 2022’.
Although normally a new Naughty Dog game is cause for celebration many fans have questioned the need for a remake, considering the existing PlayStation 4 remaster still looks and plays very well.
