The latest rumours suggest that Warzone 2 will get a second map in 2023 and that it’ll be similar in size to Rebirth Island.
Activision may have said very little about Warzone 2 so far, especially in comparison to the new Modern Warfare 2, but the rumours so far suggest that development is pretty far advanced. Far enough that work on a second map has already begun.
Details of the initial map have already been leaked but the same source claims that the second one will release sometime after launch and will be similar in size to the original Warzone’s Rebirth Island.
Supposedly, playtesters working on Warzone 2 have already seen references to the second map in the game menus, although it’s not yet available to play and still in early development.
It’s believed that the map will be released during year two of Warzone, probably in December 2023 – which ordinarily would indicate that it will be a tie-in to that year’s new Call Of Duty.
Various rumours have suggested that there might not be a mainline Call Of Duty 2023, as Microsoft is apparently not committed to a yearly release schedule, but Activision has so far denied this.
The Warzone 2 map details were leaked by Tom Henderson via the Exputer website and while he’s proven accurate about many recent Call Of Duty details the 2023 plans still remain unclear.
While Modern Warfare 2 is due for release on October 28 there’s still no release date for Warzone 2, although it’s claimed it will launch ‘a couple of months after MW2’.
A full reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is expected on June 8, and it may be that online event will also feature the first glimpse of Warzone 2.
