A second Call of Duty Warzone 2 map is reportedly in development.
In an Exputer report, reliable industry insider Tom Henderson claimed to have been informed that the map was visible in Warzone 2’s menu during a recent playtest session, although users weren’t able to see it in action.
It’s thought that the map could be similar in size to Warzone’s Rebirth Island and that it’s likely to be released sometime after Warzone 2 launches.
Activision announced in April that a new free-to-play Warzone experience is being built from the ground-up alongside Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, led by developer Infinity Ward.
While the publisher has yet to officially reveal any further details about the game, Henderson said it appears that the current plan is to release Warzone 2 by December 2022 or January 2023, with the second map potentially arriving late next year.
Last week, in conjunction with Try Hard Guides, Henderson published an image that’s claimed to reveal Warzone 2’s map primary map, including all of its points of interest and several notable features, such as a significant body of water in which players can swim.
The battle royale game will reportedly introduce a swimming mechanic for the first time in Warzone. Neither of the original Warzone’s maps, Verdansk and Caldera, have supported swimming, although it was possible in Call of Duty’s first battle royale, Black Ops 4’s Blackout.
Another recent leak suggested there are plans to bring Warzone 2 closer to Blackout in other ways too, including armour requiring a satchel to be equipped, and a new inventory system where you can only fit so many weapons and pieces of equipment in your bag.
