Activision has unveiled the first proper trailer for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and while it looks good it’s still not clear what’s going on.
Most publishers nowadays acknowledge the fact that almost everything about a new game leaks out ahead of time but for some reason Activision is being very stubborn about Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and they still won’t say what the plot is.
Almost a year ago rumours suggested that, rather than following the story of the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009, the new game would feature a plotline involving South American drug cartels and inspired by Harrison Ford film Clear and Present Danger.
There’s a brief mention of Mexican special forces in the trailer above, which might indicate the rumours are true, but other than that it’s not made clear what is going on, other than the SAS style Task Force 141 are getting into their usual sort of trouble.
‘Task Force 141 faces its greatest threat yet – a newly aligned menace with deep, yet unknown, connections’, is all Activision has said. ‘Familiar heroes return and new allies are formed in a globe-trotting operation, including missions in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.’
Not that the story really matters in a Call Of Duty game but you do have to wonder whether Activision now regrets not making the Russians the bad guys, as they were in the original game.
There’s more information on the official website, including about the multiplayer and co-op, as Activision and developer Infinity Ward look to draw a line under the unpopular Second World War setting of last year’s Vanguard.
Also revealed today is that while Modern Warfare 2 will have an open beta for all formats it will come to PlayStation 4 and 5 at least five days earlier.
