Activision debuted the first Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 gameplay during Summer Game Fest on Thursday.
The near-eight-minute gameplay video below shows off a playthrough of a level called Dark Water, which sees Task Force 141 infiltrating an oil rig.
“An oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico is storing the cargo that could spark a global conflict,” reads the blurb accompanying the trailer.
“Task Force 141 found intel that shows missiles hidden on board and have dispatched a team of Soap, Ghost, and Mexican Special Forces Colonel Alejandro Vargas, along with Shadow Company, enter a ship full of well-armed AQ enemies to locate the controls for a missile bound for the US.”

The Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 release date is October 28, 2022, while Warzone 2.0 will arrive “later this year”.
Both titles will be available for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC via Battle.net and Steam.
Modern Warfare 2’s campaign promises a globe-trotting operation spanning missions in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
It will include “offshore sieges with underwater combat, all-out explosive assaults from 30,000 feet above enemy strongholds, and high-stakes, low-profile stealth missions in both plain sight and under the cover of darkness”.
Activision claims: “Modern Warfare II features a physically based material system allowing for state-of-the-art photogrammetry, a new hybrid tile-based streaming system, a new PBR decal rendering system, world volumetric lighting, 4K HDR, as well as a new GPU geometry pipeline.
