2022 kicked off with some strong suggestions that we would be getting a remaster or remake of the classic GoldenEye 007. TrueAcheivements, an achievements tracking site, picked up a whole list of new achievements for the James Bond shooter, sparking speculation that a remake was imminent. It's been over six months since then, and there hasn't even been a squeak from Rare – except that somebody at the developer's end is still racking up the Achievements.
TrueAcheivements picked up another GoldenEye 007 Achievement earlier in May, unlocked by a gamertag called BigSheep (thanks, VGC). Apparently, this gamertag belongs to none other than Rare lead engineer James Thomas, who previously worked on the N64 ports for 2015’s Rare Replay. The Achievement in question – "Merciless: Kill a player while they're unarmed" – that's not cool, James.

Back in January, when the Achievements originally came to light, a total of 55 of them were picked up by TrueAchievements, including a secret one, making up a total Gamerscore of 1,000. They included recognition for feats like finishing levels under a certain time, doing so with various difficulties, challenges in the game's multiplayer, and now, mercilessly killing unarmed and helpless agents. A point to note is that this list was very different from the one spotted via the leak of the cancelled XBLA GoldenEye 007 remake.
