Achievements for a GoldenEye 007 re-release are on the official Xbox website, foreshadowing a potential reveal at this week’s showcase.
Despite being one of the most important video games of the 90s, Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007 has never been re-released, although that’s not because of a lack of trying. However, what was once a pipe dream might now be one of the worst kept secrets in gaming.
At the beginning of the year, Xbox achievements for GoldenEye 007 were spotted and shared online, despite the original game never releasing for Xbox platforms.
Now those same achievements have popped up again but, this time, on the official Xbox website.
It’s not known whether the game is a full remake or a simple HD remaster. Microsoft did create a remaster in 2008 but despite being complete it was never released and it’s unclear whether that’s what this is or not.
However, the achievement list does confirm every level from the original Nintendo 64 game is present and accounted for.
This includes the Aztec and Egyptian bonus levels that could only be unlocked by beating the game on certain difficulties.
You can see the list for yourself on the Xbox website, but you will need an Xbox profile to do so. Although Twitter user Wario64 has shared screengrabs of most of them.
There is also evidence that Rare, the original game’s developer, is behind this re-release/remaster. When the achievement list was first discovered and shared via TrueAchievements, only two players were found to have unlocked any of them.
Both usernames matched the Twitter handles of Rare employees and one of them, BigSheep aka coder James Thomas, unlocked an achievement as recently as May 2.
