Kevin Smith confirms that HBO Max's DC Comics series, Strange Adventures, has officially been canceled after several years of development. Since the launch of HBO Max, Warner Bros. has been attempting to bring more original content from the many properties that they own. One of their major franchises that were going to utilize more on the HBO-branded service was the DC Universe, with original shows like Titans, Doom Patrol, or spinoffs related to the DCEU and The Batman universe. Shows like Peacemaker, a spinoff from The Suicide Squad, were launched in early 2022, and HBO Max is currently working on The Penguin, which will be an offshoot series from The Batman.
While the DCEU and The Batman-verse have managed to get projects off the ground, Warner Bros. TV has also worked on other DC TV shows. In October 2019, HBO Max announced that they were developing a Green Lantern TV series, which got picked up to series a year later for a 10-episode order. However, HBO Max also unveiled that they were developing a DC anthology series, Strange Adventures, also executive produced by Arrowverse's Greg Berlanti. The 1-hour drama was set to «feature characters from across the DC canon,» and would use each episode to «explore close-ended morality tales about the intersecting lives of mortals and superhumans.»
