It’s been a few months since Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn was last seen. A combat trailer was shared during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase in June. Today, A44 Games and Kepler Interactive have brought a new trailer, which takes an even deeper look at the weaponry and magic at your disposal. If you’re a fan of Souls-likes and the hard-hitting combat of the latest God of War, then this Flintlock gameplay may get you excited.
It’s fairly clear where Flintlock is taking its inspiration. With the camera suited close to the protagonists back, we see how powerful swings, near-perfect dodges, and takedowns blend together during fights. The camera even zooms in during these said takedowns, giving you a closer look at the brutality.
Of course, there’s also some Souls in the mix. Bloodborne-esque quickstepping looks like an important tool to avoid damage. It’s also hard to ignore the panic rolls briefly made by whoever was recording this Flintlock gameplay. We’ve all been there, friend. Boss fights against some really powerful-looking enemies will also be the highlight of the game. The trailer below showcases a couple against some knights, one of whom blasts away with a massive beam. This might be a challenging game, and I’m all there for it.
However, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn gameplay isn’t all ‘God of Souls.’ Other than the axe and your acrobatics, you also have full use of magic abilities and a, well, flintlock pistol. The trailer shows how you’ll be able to charge up your ax with fire damage. There even seems to be a way to use your magical pet during combat and traversal. The pistol shows up in some takedown executions, but you can also use it against enemies for some medium-range damage.
