The first two games in the Dark Pictures Anthology series have been given a major update, alongside the release of new versions for current-gen systems.
PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of Man of Medan and Little Hope are both available now, with enhanced visuals.
Although Bandai Namco‘s release announcement doesn’t explicitly state that players will get a free upgrade, VGC can confirm that players who own the Xbox One versions of each game can now install the Xbox Series X/S versions via Smart Delivery.
Meanwhile, the PlayStation Store listing for the PS5 version states: “If you already own the PS4 version of this game, you can get the PS5 digital version at no extra cost and you do not need to purchase this product.”
As with all current-gen upgrades, if players have a physical disc PS4 or Xbox One version of the game they will need to have the disc in their console as they play. This means players with an Xbox Series S or the PS5 Digital Edition can only upgrade for free if their last-gen purchase was the digital version.
Both games also receive a general update too, which will apply to both the current-gen versions and the legacy PS4, Xbox One and PC versions. The new features added in the update include:
Logos and titles for five new titles in The Dark Pictures series of anthology horror games were registered in Europe earlier this year.
The titles – Directive 8020, The Craven Man, Intercession, Winterfold and O Death – suggest the horror anthology series will continue well beyond the release of The Devil In Me, the fourth and final game in ‘Season 1’ due for release in November.
