In 2021, Reliance launched its first smartphone for the masses, called JioPhone Next. This was designed to run on Jio’s 4G networks and offer an Android smartphone experience at an entry level price of ₹6,499. Jio is not done, however. Based on a new leak report, a JioPhone 5G is in the works and its specs have already leaked. And, it seems as if Jio has heard complaints from its previous 4G only phone.
The leak, which comes via an Android Central report, suggests that the JioPhone 5G will launch alongside Jio’s 5G network that will reach 13 Indian cities, possibly in 2022. The JioPhone 5G will rollout as an affordable way for people to access the high-speed network. And, it could cost between Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 12,000. This could make it the cheapest 5G smartphone in the market by some margin.
The JioPhone 5G is said to be based on the Snapdragon 480 5G chipset, which is a substantial upgrade from the Snapdragon 215. The phone will support N3, N5, N28, N40, and N78 5G bands, which hints at the popular bands that Jio could launch in the country. There will be a 6.5-inch HD+ display that will have slim design and a punch-hole camera cutout.
The phone will come with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage, with the latter offering the ability to expand via a microSD card. The phone will launch with Android 11 Go Edition out of the box with certain modifications to accommodate Jio’s services and apps, as well as the Google apps and services. Jio will also offer a customised Jio UI interface.
There will be cameras too but they won’t be upgraded from the JioPhone Next. The rear camera will have a 13MP sensor whereas the front camera will have a 8MP sensor.
Lastly, the JioPhone 5G is said to rely on a bigger 5000mAh battery and will support 18W
