The sixth installment of Scream will be the goriest yet, and also feature the most «violent» Ghostface «we've ever seen,» according to cast member Jenna Ortega. In a brief red carpet Q&A, Ortega told Entertainment Tonight about her reactions to having read part of the slasher's script.
«Ghostface gets a lot more intimidating,» Ortega said. «I just read part of the script, and it just gets more and more gory. I think that this is probably the most aggressive and violent version of Ghostface we've ever seen, which I think will really be fun to shoot.»
Ortega is returning to the franchise after 2022's Scream, alongside Melissa Barrera (Sam), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy) and Mason Gooding (Chad). Though not too much is known about the movie's plot, we do know that these four characters will return as they try, and most likely don't succeed, at making a fresh start at a safer life. Also returning to the Scream franchise is Hayden Panettiere as Kirby from Scream 4.
«I'm not even going to try to touch on [Panettiere's return],» Ortega said. «She has been one of my favorite characters in the franchise for a long time so the fact that her character gets to come back and redeem herself is really exciting.»
Radio Silence's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct Scream 6--which doesn't yet have a title, and tentatively (and confusingly) could be the second Scream 2 in the franchise. Writers Jamie Vanderbilt and Guy Busick are returning to write the script. It's a winning team that steered Scream to earn $30.6 million in its opening weekend.
Scream 6 is set for a March 31, 2023 release date.
