Jenna Ortega goes toe-to-toe with more horrors in the trailer for American Carnage. Ortega has turned herself into a modern scream queen, having already appeared in three horror films prior to this in 2022 alone. She battled a rebooted Ghostface in Scream, she joined with the Foo Fighters to fend off the supernatural in Studio 666, and she fought societal taboos (and a pitch-fork wielding granny) in Ti West's X. Following this, she'll tackle playing the kooky Gothic creep Wednesday Addams in the upcoming Tim Burton show Wednesday.
Now Ortega stars alongside Jorge Lendeborg Jr. (Bumblebee, Spider-Man: Far From Home) as two of a group of detained youth, arrested after a conservative governor issues an executive order to round up the children of undocumented immigrants. The group are given a chance at freedom, but first they must volunteer at a sprawling and unsettling nursing home. Of course, not everything is as it seems at the facility. Something seems to be tormenting the residents, beyond the taser-happy staff and corrupt facility supervisor; something supernatural. The trailer, courtesy of Collider, is below:

Despite its lighter tone, the trailer trafficks in imagery from some very real world horrors, like ICE seizures. Hopefully, Carnage has more to say about its real-world problems, à la Get Out, as opposed to The Forever Purge, which used immigration and racism as plot points without having much to say about them. Jenna Ortega will maintain her horror reign when American Carnage premieres in theaters, and Digital and On Demand on July 15.
