Director Daniel Espinosa opens up about why Jared Leto was the only actor who could play Morbius for Sony's Spider-Man Universe installment. Leto leads the cast for the film alongside Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Tyrese Gibson. Morbius also marks the return of Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes, better known as the Vulture, from Spider-Man: Homecoming, though how his connection to the SSU from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently unknown.
Morbius marks the big screen debut of the titular scientist suffering from a rare blood disease who seeks to cure himself with a form of vampirism. Though cured of his illness and granted with superhuman abilities without the traditional weaknesses of bloodsuckers, Morbius must also struggle with his thirst for blood and his friend's desire to cure himself of the same blood disease through the same vein as Morbius. Following multiple COVID-related delays, including a shuffle with Venom: Let There Be Carnage taking its original place, Morbius is gearing up to hit theaters in April.
