Beetlejuice 2 might finally happen over three decades after the original movie was released, and as much as the audience loves the title character and his unpredictability, it’s too late for a second Beetlejuice movie. Tim Burton has become known for directing projects that mix gothic elements with family-friendly horror and classic horror as well, and among his most beloved movies is Beetlejuice. Released in 1988, Beetlejuice is a fantasy comedy written by McDowell and Larry Wilson that fits Burton’s style perfectly and marked the first collaboration between Burton and Michael Keaton, who went on to play Batman in Batman and Batman Returns.
Beetlejuice followed Barbara and Adam Maitland (Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin), a recently deceased young couple who don’t know what to do next, so they decide to stay in their house and haunt the new residents: the Deetzes. In order to scare them away, the Maitlands enlist the help of self-proclaimed “bio-exorcist” ghost Betelgeuse (pronounced Beetlejuice), but things get out of hand as he doesn’t play by the rules. In the process, the Maitlands befriend Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), a lonely, young girl who defends them when her father and step-mother want to get rid of them.

Beetlejuice was a critical and commercial success, with critics and viewers praising its weirdness, Keaton’s performance, and its balance of comedy, horror, and bizarreness.
