Peacemakermastermind James Gunn receives a hilarious letter from Scooby-Doo, who supposedly hasn’t heard from the writer since working together back in 2004. Gunn’s work on Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy franchise made him a household name. After helming Warner Bros./DC’s The Suicide Squad (2020), and its spin-off Peacemaker, the writer/director has officially become Hollywood’s champion of oddball comic book characters.
Long before Gunn made his directorial debut with the indie horror-comedy film Slither (2006), he served as the screenwriter for the live-action Scooby-Doo (2002) and its follow-up, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004). In 2020, Gunn revealed that he was originally meant to write and direct a third film in that franchise. However, the second film didn’t do well enough to warrant a third. While that ultimately worked out in Gunn’s favor as his experience apprenticing as a director on those films prepared him for his work on Guardians, one talking dog has seemingly been left in his dust.
