James Gunn has confirmed that Nico Santos was cast in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The third installment of the MCU film series was initially set to be directed by Gunn in 2014, but he was fired from the project in 2018 following backlash over controversial posts on Twitter. However, Gunn was re-hired several months later, and filming began for the film in November 2021. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released on May 5, 2023.
In a Tweet from Gunn, the director confirmed that Santos would appear in the film. Santos is best known for playing Mateo on the NBC series Superstore and Oliver in the 2018 film Crazy Rich Asians. While Gunn did not reveal what Santos' role in the movie would be, he praised Santos as being "hilarious & talented & sweet." Gunn also revealed that both he and Santos got engaged during the production of Guardians 3. See Gunn's Tweet below:
