The Jagged Alliance 3 release date has been revealed, with the latest entry in this turn-based tactics series now set to launch for PC on 14th July.
The latest trailer delves into the gameplay features that you can expect from this series revival – it’s been 25 years since the original launched, and Jagged Alliance 2 was also rooted in the last millennium, with the spin-offs that came since then being dubbed as “interesting”.
Jagged Alliance 3 follows in the original template, but completely modernised the approach to turn-based tactical combat and the RPG elements woven around it, with Haemimont Games on hand as developer. As you head into each combat situation, you’ll have to factor in everything from the weather and lighting to level topography and whether your mercs were well rested before the mission.
There will be a wide cast of mercs to hire, with the return of some fan favourites, and you can then improve them with perks as they level up, giving them new gear from looted, salvaged and customised weaponry and equipment. They’ll be a spearhead for the militia that you build up to push the enemy back and recapture different regions and sectors of Grand Chien – this is the site of the war that you’re waging, as you lead a counter-insurgency with a group of hired mercs.
Your approach to the campaign will be right up to you, whether you’re a benevolent mercenary band or one that’s purely in it for the money. You’ll have your own morality to deal with (and, I guess, the locals if you push them too far).
The game is only coming to PC on 14th July, though I’m sure many of us are hoping to see a port to consoles sometime in the future.
