This past weekend saw The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences hold the 2022 iteration of its annual DICE Awards, which recognizes technical, design, and narrative excellence in our wonderful world of video gaming. This year’s event saw awards handed out to some of 2021’s biggest hitters, helping to bolster the trophy cases of several releases that have already bagged themselves multiple industry gongs.
Among the biggest winners of the night were EA’s co-op adventure It Takes Two, which took home the coveted Game of the Year award — a trophy that will no doubt sit snugly next to its previous GOTY award, won during December’s Game Awards 2021 ceremony. It Takes Two also picked up the Outstanding Achievement in Game Design award, beating out deserved nominees including Deathloop, Inscryption, and Loop Hero.
Insomniac Games’ excellent adventure Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was another of the night’s big winners, taking home a hefty four trophies in the field of animation, art direction, technical achievement, and family gaming. On the audio front, Housemarque’s sci-fi epic Returnal won awards for both its music and evocative and immersive sound design. Also around to make a scene, Resident Evil Village‘s undeniable Lady Dimitrescu won the award for Outstanding Achievement in Character.
