The Super Mario Bros. Movie has become one of the biggest movies of all time and while we've thrown around some ideas of what Nintendo and Illumination could do next, the obvious choice is Legend of Zelda. The Legend of Zelda is Nintendo's second biggest franchise and a movie has been in the works in some form or another for over a decade, it seems like it's all about to come to fruition.
Aside from the fact that Shigeru Miyamoto has already teased that more Nintendo movies are on the way, rumors have become louder in the past few weeks. There hasn't been any official announcement, but on the latest episode of The Hot Mic, reporter Jeff Sneider said Universal is close to a deal with getting things underway for a Legend of Zelda movie.
«I don't think what I'm about to say is a huge surprise...but I got this tip last week on the show from a great source and I didn't want to just blurt it out,» Sneider said. «Not a big shocker, but we're getting close to official, I'm told that Universal is in fact closing a 'big deal' for Legend of Zelda.»
Again, this all feels very obvious and expected at this point. The latest Zelda entry Tears of the Kingdom is already one of the best games of the year so it makes sense to have this sort of synergy and announce a movie, maybe by San Diego Comic-Con next month.
Fans have to remember how delicate Nintendo has treated this production before, even shutting down a movie when it was prematurely leaked. Zelda producers are ready, fans are ready, so it's really a matter of when and not if at this point.
